Lansdowne RFC NY are proud to announce the New York Irish Invitational, an exhibition tournament that will take place in the New York City area on April 16th, Easter weekend. Travelling to New York from Dublin, Ireland is the All-Ireland powerhouse St. Mary’s College RFC. They will be joined by Lansdowne’s fellow local colleagues NYPD and Morris Rugby. Attendance will be free, but attendees are encouraged to donate to Answer the Call, the New York Police & Fire Widows’ & Children’s benefit fund.
St. Mary’s College are among the best clubs in Ireland, competing in the All-Ireland League 1B, with over a dozen major trophies, including 2 national league titles and and All-Ireland Cup. It’s a rare opportunity for stateside rugby fans to see a European rugby club play a friendly in New York. Lansdowne, who are a perennial competitor in all competitions in Empire GU, expect one of their greatest challenges when they take on The Blues.
NYPD Rugby and Morris were more than excited to join in on this competition, as Lansdowne regularly schedule friendly matches against them almost every season. This day of rugby will of course also be for a great cause, with fundraising efforts going towards Answer The Call, supporting first responders’ families.
The New York Irish Invitational is close to announcing a venue pretty soon, and will release a follow up announcement on those details, as well as post-match festivities. For those who cannot make it in person, New Logical will be streaming all of the matches online on all of the major social media platforms, including YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Twitch, and possibly TikTok.
