After an amazing Fall 2021 campaign where Lansdowne debuted in the Empire GU Premiership and finished runners-up, the boys from Woodlawn will look to build depth with their participation in the Empire GU Met/CT Cup. The Met/CT Cup is a Spring competition that consists of a mixture of Premership and Championship clubs, for the purpose of maintaining competitive play as all clubs in the region prepare for the Fall 2022 season. A trophy is presented to the winner of this competition, but winning does not provide a berth to any National playoffs.
Coach Bedford sees Lansdowne’s participation in this competition as beneficial to building much needed depth. “The Spring season should be a rebuilding phase. The goal is getting to the national playoffs by overcoming Buffalo in the Fall,” remarked Bedford, whose first full official season in charge resulted in much earned series victories over all but one of Lansdowne’s Premiership opponents, only falling to Buffalo in both legs.
Lansdowne will match up against familiar opponents such as Long Island, and Greenwich, while meeting Suffolk and Fairfield for the first time in many years. Players from Lansdowne’s first and second squads will be rotated regularly, to give them valuable match time and focus on development.
